The Emotional Freedom Techniques, (EFT) or Tapping, is a process of realigning energy in the body to create new neural pathways in the pursuit to resolve emotional issues that have been resistant to treatment. In my practice I routinely use this technique to help disengage emotional trauma that may be held in the body even though the triggering event has long past.
EFT is a form of psychological acupressure, where tapping occurs at specific meridians, similar to traditional acupuncture, but with the use of fingers rather than needles to treat physical and emotional ailments. A specific issue or problem is brought to mind and spoken out loud while the client is led through a specific pattern of tapping the fingertips on eight body points on the head, face and upper body.
Like hypnosis, EFT works below the conscious mind, or prefrontal cortex and goes directly to the limbic system where emotions and muscle memory is stored. Research has shown that EFT can challenge and change unconscious beliefs and emotions by shifting the chemicals being released in the body. Ir definitely helps maintain the needed balance between mind and body.
